Springtime
As spring blossoms, so do we: The ZHdK collection «Störbilder» is transforming IM VIADUKT into Zurich's longest art exhibition. From now on, various posters will adorn our facade, inviting visitors to discover them and stimulating discussions on current topics.
IM VIADUKT combines civil engineering with art: five groups of students from Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) have the opportunity to clad the scaffolding around the viaduct arches with their design work. The scaffolding, which was erected due to SBB's track renovation work, is not only visually enhanced, but the posters also invite discovery and encourage discourse on current issues.
THE PROBE
The first section of IM VIADUKT is characterised by the lively atmosphere of the market hall. The art installation "The Probe" projects the diverse selection of the indoor food hall and the visitors' appreciation of the rich variety of products onto the façade. Through the use of artificial intelligence, this group of students has created an abstract atmospheric image that invites discovery thanks to a compilation of images, microscope images and found objects. NOSTALGIA
The "Nostalgia" project allows its viewers to reminisce. From Bravo magazine to Spongebob and Ahoi Brause: there are cult products and characters that connect entire generations. The project aims to create this bridge and at the same time leave room for your own nostalgic thoughts through blurred "collage glitches". More on the creation of the ‘Nostalgia’ project here:
WE THE VIADUCT
There is a lot to explore between arches ...8 and ...16: A hallucinatory hidden object picture picks up on anecdotes and situations from everyday life and represents the people who make the viaduct arches and the Josefswiese a lively meeting place. The protagonists in the images were created with the help of artificial intelligence and thus challenge our ideas about reality. It's worth taking a second look, because there are some unexpected things to discover:
STATUS SHAPES
The ‘Status Shapes’ graphic embodies various themes that the designers associate with Kreis 5 and city life in Zurich. The illustrations were inspired by data and facts from the Federal Statistical Office. For example, the designers take up topics such as population development, the composition of households and the number of vacant flats and incorporate them into their mega poster in a playful and artistic way.
DOES IT BOTHER YOU?
Community & Diversity: These are the overarching themes of the poster that adorns the arches ...A to ...F. The design reflects the diversity of IM VIADUKT's visitors and emphasises this through the depiction of anthropomorphised animals. Inspired by the illustrations of Keith Haring, the artists want to stimulate discourse on the topics of inclusion and acceptance and invite viewers to engage in a dialogue on otherness.
